Just a few miles north of Avon, North Carolina lies the footprint of a small fishing village called Little Kinnakeet.

It has been deserted for many years and it's only remembrance is the Life Saving Station and the tombstones of our ancestors.

I had the opportunity to visit this remote area in the fall. Somehow I felt like I belonged...it is an awkward feeling as you walk the same shoreline of your ancestors! You feel as though you have been there before and somehow it gave me a sense of home. Don't know why but it touched me deep!

Take a walk with me and my friends of the Hatteras Island Genealogical Preservation Society...
Gone but not forgotten
